2022 Model!
The new AirVolution high-pressure inflatable kayak takes the award-winning series of Advanced Elements kayaks to the next level - upgraded with ultra-rigid 10-12 PSI drop-stitch technology.
Read our detailed Product Review on the Advanced Elements AirVolution with photos! This features the 2020 model.
Drop-stitch (DS) material is the same used in the inflatable paddle board market, where thousands of threads string the top and bottom panels together, allowing it to be pumped up to higher pressures, thus making it more rigid.
The entire kayak is innovatively constructed using PVC Tarpaulin laminated to high-pressure drop-stitch material - this gives a smoother finish, increased rigidity and a sculpted outline for greater paddling performance. The v-shaped hull design in the bow and removable deep-water fin increase tracking performance, allowing the AirVolution to slice through the water. With only two chambers to inflate, the new AirVolution high-pressure inflatable kayak features a streamlined set up procedure, allowing one to get out on the water quickly. The open-deck design provides ease-of-entry, while the sculpted EVA foam seat can be ratcheted four-ways, providing maximum support, adjustability and comfort.

I have more than one AirVolution and have been using them on the local lakes near Phoenix for the past couple of years. The newest model with the inflation connections next to each other on the same side is a big improvement. I inflate my kayak at the waters edge with a high pressure pump and it makes the inflation and deflation a lot easier. The AirVolution is easy to set up and tear down and doesn't require much in the way of cleaning. The skeg can be a challenge to install and remove when dirt gets in the channels, but cleaning with a towel before you install is a big help. On the water, the performance is great for an inflatable. It is highly maneuverable and stays on track even with the shorter skeg. I get a lot of questions and compliments on my kayak. When I tell people it is an inflatable they are surprised. After seeing my kayak, I have seen more than one person show up with the Airvolution that they purchased after seeing mine. It is very stable and I have never tipped over even with heavy wake coming from nearby power boats. With another models, on a windy day I would struggle in windy conditions to the point of paddling in place. Airvolution has much of the kayak submerged below the waterline and even in strong winds I can keep going forward. I have run into rocks in murky waters and never had any problems. One thing to keep an eye on is blisters on the bottom of the boat. The blisters are small and very low on the surface. I tend to drag my boat across the sand, so this doesn't help. I did develop a very slow leak from these blisters. It might be a good idea to patch these blisters before they start to leak air. It took a couple of years for these to develop, but it is something to watch out for. I am very happy with the AirVolution and am looking forward to many more years of use out of them. I have had to contact Air Kayaks on a couple of occasions and they have been very helpful and responsive to my requests, responding to e-mails within a day. Great boat, great fun, sturdy, and reliable. What else can I say?
Love it! The only issue I have is getting wet with such a wide open cockpit. I knew that before purchasing.
Loved our 2020 AirVolution tandem so much we bought a solo the next summer, and a second solo this summer. Love how multiple kayaks fit in the trunk of a Civic. Tandem and solos have performed great in rivers (fairly flat) and lakes. Running without the skeg, they have a tendency to yaw when you stop paddling and lose headway, but the skeg really helps and as we have adapted our paddling style the yaw has been less noticeable. The new 2022 skeg is better shaped for shallow water so we’ll be able to put in the skeg more often.
Lovely kayak that tracks and moves very well for an inflatable. The included electric pump isn’t so great, so be ready for a mini workout when pumping this, otherwise set up and tear down is fairly easy and quick. A couple of cons: 1. This needs a spray skirt, the open style cockpit is very wide and long which easily allows water in. AE has promised a spray skirt is in the works, but it’s been quite a while now with no update. 2. There is a lack of storage space on this.
