The unique AdvancedFrame2 Convertible Inflatable Kayak from Advanced Elements features truly cutting-edge design, with its built-in rigid bow and stern and high-end components. The front and back ribs are made of high grade aluminum, allowing the bow to slice through water like a knife. The stern acts as a skeg, which increases the tracking performance. When the chambers inflate, these ribs are pressed against the outer cover and form a high performance bow and stern which rival the tracking of a hard-shell day touring kayak yet still folds up compactly! While most inflatables ride ON the water, the AdvancedFrame rides IN the water. This DS Series Advanced Elements convertible kayak is manufactured from extremely durable materials and high-end components. There is plenty of on-board storage space without cramping your leg room, making extended trips much more enjoyable. Gear can be stored behind the rear seat. It sets up in easily, and is compact enough to take along for an adventure anywhere. The kayak's durable double-coated fabric, heavy-duty PVC and electronically welded seams can take bumps, scrapes and rough water. The Advanced Elements convertible kayak features optimal roominess for those that don't like to be hemmed in. But in a matter of seconds, with the optional single or double decks you can create a "closed deck" kayak with the ability to use a spray skirt. Three seating arrangements allow for maximum versatility! If you love the water, but like to travel light, this sleek compact inflatable kayak will add a new dimension to your outdoor adventures. From lakes, and mild rivers, to bays and estuaries, it is a delight to get on the water quickly; keep it deflated in the trunk of your car and the next time you're driving along a river, lake or bay, you can be fishing or paddling in just minutes! I bought this for the portability and it has been perfect for my purposes. It fits in a bin of my class A RV Relatively portable. ( I wouldn’t want to have to haul a distance) Very solid and Stable. Inflates pretty quickly with the included pump I’ve used it in fresh and salt water. Handles minor scrapes well. I definitely recommend this product
Set up and take down of this kayak are super easy. I am very happy with the way it tracks and paddles. We were on a lake at 9000' in Colorado last week. The water was cold and it got windy - but we stayed dry and comfortable all day.
We have owned a tandem Advanced Element (Blue) with drop stitch floor for about 10 years, used on all kinds of water in Oregon and British Columbia during June though mid-October. We have been very pleased with the performance in terms of tracking and stability, no problems with mold or mildew. We do wipe down the floor(s) before folding to remove any water or dirt which takes little effort. However, we never bag the kayak, often store it mostly inflated or loosely folded. When camping we use a cartop box carrier where it can dry. While there may be tradeoffs, I would not dismiss purchasing based on reviews that suggest that this is a disqualifying flaw. During the off season we either leave it partially inflated or folded on a shelf in the garage. We did have a leak around one of the valves that we repaired as instructed by AE support (thanks) and had a little trouble with the drop stitch floor valve becoming stuck open when inflating. Despite enjoying the kayak and its thoughtful design, there is room for improvement: #1 The 4-6 psi drop stitch floor should be increased to a 10 to 12 psi floor to prevent any point load bending either from flexing in waves, to provide more stable boarding, exiting and adjusting position, and to prevent deflection from front to rear weight difference. It should be a top priority to provide such an aftermarket floor for existing owners. I would not recommend anyone purchasing the lower cost frame floor. The wrinkles in the fabric show in the publicity photos above should not be present when properly inflated and with a sufficiently stiff floor. #2 For a future edition of the kayak: Another 6 inches of length would allow more comfort for the forward paddler which currently allows no ability to shift position for longer paddles. AE could use less-absorbent fabric for the inner air chamber containment tubes and a more waterproof deck fabric. This might address the criticism of some reviewers that the current version is subject to mildew and mold (which we have not experienced as above). The tube containing fabric likely allows some slip to maintain shape during inflation which is important. and likely allows more shaping compared to side tubes used by Sea Eagle for example. The thermal comfort of the softer inflated side tubes is a plus. The use of two valve types can be annoying. The max air pressure should be printed on or next to the valve connections as this may not be known without referring to the manual. The inflatable splash guards should include combing around the front and rear of the cockpit opening to deal with larger waves from "wave" power boats. A flush bottom drain plug is worth adding although we have not ever had a need for this. Hope this helps in your purchase decision and AE future products.
We took our kayak on a local Forrest preserve lake for the first time. It was very stable and fairly rigid with the drop stitch floor. It was windy and we were able to paddle easily against it with no problem. The materials the Kayak is made from are quality and having multiple air chambers makes me feel secure. I would recommend it.
Paddle is poor quality.
